“What if I’m not good enough?”

Hey Reader,

I remember lying awake at night in sixth form.

Staring at the ceiling.

Running the same question through my head again and again:

"What if I’m not good enough?"

My mind rehearsed every possible failure.

What if I don’t get into med school?
What if I can’t find a job afterwards?

Fear has a strange habit.

It pretends to be preparation.

But most of the time, it’s just imagination working overtime.

And for years I treated fear like something to escape.

Something to outrun.

Until I noticed something interesting.

Every time I faced the thing I was worried about…
the story in my head was worse than reality.

What if I don’t get into med school?

I did.

What if I can’t find a job?

I did.

For a long time, I treated doubt like something that was chasing me.

Every time I reached one milestone, my mind would jump ahead to the next possible problem.

What if the next step goes wrong?

I spent a lot of energy preparing for things that never actually happened.

Then one day I noticed something.

Most of the fears I’d carried around for years… never materialised.

But the thinking never stopped.

The mind doesn’t switch off. It keeps working in the background, quietly constructing stories about what might happen next.

Eventually I realised the real question isn’t whether your mind is active.

It always will be.

The question is what you let it build.

For years, mine was building arguments for why things might fall apart.

These days when a worrying thought shows up, I ask myself:

What if I can do this..

What does that look like?

Sometimes the smallest shift in thinking is enough to change the direction you walk.

❓Question for you

What’s possible for you right now if you choose to build bridges instead of walls?

Quote of the week

“The thoughts in your mind will always be more important than the things in your life. Choose happiness.” — John C. Maxwell

😂 Fun fact

It’s natural to experience negative thoughts, especially during times of stress or uncertainty. However, these thoughts don’t define us. What we think influences how we feel and our thoughts can shape our beliefs over time. The good news is, with awareness, we have the power to challenge and shift our thoughts, creating space for more positive perspectives.

Hey Reader, Back at med school, I remember sitting in a tutorial, knowing the answeR and still not saying anything. I was afraid to speak up, “What if I'm wrong.” As I sat there thinking, someone else answered“That’s exactly what I was going to say.” But I remember the feeling on the way home. That quiet frustration at myself. For a long time, I thought confidence meant being certain. But that wasn’t my reality. My reality looked more like:Rehearsing sentences in my head before...

Hey Reader, Some weeks try to overwhelm you. It’s never just one thing. It’s everything at once. A loved one gets sick.An unexpected complaint lands out of nowhere.Your time, energy and focus all stretched thin at the same time. Underneath it all, a quiet voice whispers, “I can’t keep up.” If that’s where you are right now, pause for a minute: A captain doesn’t get to choose the direction of the wind or the size of the waves. But he does steer the ship. And that matters more than it seems. You...

Hey Reader, Recently, I hit a milestone I’d been working towards for a long time. I assumed the number itself would matter. I remember sitting in my apartment, refreshing the dashboard as it finally rolled over to 10K subscribers A goal I chased at the start of my journey. Messages started coming in. “Congratulations.”“Well deserved.” I realised something unexpected. The number itself didn’t feel like the win. What stayed with me were the doctors I met along the way. The conversations that...
